Davis County Government Structure

The County Republican Party hosted an organized Convention. Commission Seat B had a three-way race in which I had the most delegate votes in the first round. Thanks to all who support me for reelection to a second 4-year term!

In his convention speech, my primary election opponent expressed interest in changing the form of government, so I’ve been getting questions about it. Republicans desire limited government, and here are some of the facts I share:

  • A three-member commission is the opposite of “big government”;

  • There is not an issue we are experiencing;

  • Studies are costly. We invest in them when we know a change is needed and want to proceed in the best way;

  • Both Weber and Utah County citizenry voted down changing from the 3 member commission structure; Salt Lake County is an example of an elected Mayor with deputy mayors; a part-time Council, and multiple full-time administrative staff.

  • Districting creates Division. Davis County is small in size, the most urban of Utah counties, and known for collaboration.

The Commission Office provides a paper in the office and online for all to understand the current structure, responsibilities, and assignments. I inform people all year long about it, and they appreciate the understanding.

The cost of running Davis County government is currently the second-lowest taxes and fees per $1000 of citizen income compared to all counties in Utah, right behind Washington County. This is the result of many years of wise financial management.
